Make a Joyful Noise – Wellbeing and Counselling respects the privacy of information obtained from customers and clients and we adhere to Australia’s privacy legislation when dealing with customer and clients’ information (The Privacy Act 1988). The information collected includes contact details.
It is a requirement as a registered health professional in Australia for counsellors to take treatment notes and to store these securely for at least 7 years. For children, they must be stored until they are 25 years old. Make a Joyful Noise – Wellbeing and Counselling adheres to these requirements.
This personal information is obtained in many ways, including by paper forms, telephone and facsimile, by email, via our website https://www.makeajoyfulnoise.com.au/, from media and publications, from other publicly available sources, from cookies and from third parties.
All your information, including session notes, will be stored on secure password-protected servers. Paper forms are digitised and stored on these secure servers. The paper form is then shredded and recycled. Only your counsellor has access to your session notes. This information is strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone, except for the following situations:
• A court of law subpoenas your session notes or other information.
• Your counsellor believes that you or someone else is at risk of harm.
• Your information needs to be shared as part of mandatory reporting requirements.
Any other sharing of your information would only occur with your written consent.
Where activities (such as administrative tasks) are outsourced by Make a Joyful Noise – Wellbeing and Counselling, these companies are contractually bound to the same privacy levels we commit to our customers and clients. Customers and clients may request access to their information on Make a Joyful Noise – Wellbeing and Counselling’s database. If any of this information is incorrect, the customer or client may request to have it corrected.
