

Wellbeing Workshops
We offer a variety of wellbeing incursion workshops catering for a variety of ages and topics. Each workshop is facilitated by Ruth Salisbury and takes place on location at your school or kinder. You can choose to have 1 session, or as many as you like! The workshops are fully resourced and take 30-45mins. Please see below for what's involved and included in each session. Nursery Rhyme Feelings!
A Workshop in Understanding and Regulating Our Feelings
3 year old kinder - Grade 1

Catering for children in 3-year-old kinder - Grade 1, this child friendly workshop uses music to teach and practise emotional regulation skills and strategies. Well known nursery rhymes presented with trumpet, recorder, percussion and vocals are used to deliver learning, making it approachable and engaging, helping children to connect to the content. The children are empowered to be active learners within all the activities within the workshop. The content is based on evidence-based counselling theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. Modelling to educators helps to continue child development of the skills they learn following the session. It includes: - Identifying appropriate responses to different feeling and emotions. - Actively practising appropriate responses to different emotions - Modelling age-appropriate methods for children to self-regulate their emotions. - Understanding the benefits and information we can get from our emotions, and how to regulate them effectively. - Resources for a craft activity (for up to 25 children) that reinforces and encourages further development of the topics covered.

Music as Therapy Part 1: A Workshop in Expressing Emotions
3 year old kinder - Grade 1

Catering for children in 3-year-old kinder - Grade 1, this child friendly workshop aims to identify different sounds and how they can induce emotional responses and express emotions effectively and appropriately. We empower children in how to express themselves if they don’t have the words. Many instruments are used in the session, including trumpet, piano, guitar, recorder and DIY instruments, where the children are encouraged to be able to make their own sound and begin to learn how this sound can help them express their inner most feelings in a healthy manner. The content is based on evidence-based counselling theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy and adapted to be fun and engaging for children. Modelling to educators helps to continue child development of the skills they learn following the session. All the activities are designed to allow for active involvement from all children, empowering them to learn through play. This session is the perfect prelude to the “My Life as a Musical!” workshop, which further develops skills in expression of feelings through sounds and songs. It includes: - Demonstrations of musical instruments including trumpet, piano, recorder, guitar. - Understanding of what makes an instrument and how you can make your own instruments. - How different sounds and songs help us express different feelings and send a message through music. - Resources for a craft activity (for up to 25 children) that encourages further development of the topics covered.

A Workshop in the Power of How We Think
3 year old kinder - Grade 1

Catering for children in 3-year-old kinder - Grade 1, this child friendly workshop empowers children to take control of their thinking, leading to increased wellbeing, confidence and regulation. Children begin to understand the effects of negative thinking and how to change these negative thoughts to empowered thoughts. Modelling to educators in how to continue to help children develop these skills following the session. The activities encourage high engagement from the children and aim to bring fun to learning. The content is based on evidence-based counselling theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. It includes: - Demonstrations of how negative thinking can affect situations. - Interactive activities centred around identifying negative thinking and how negative thinking affects us. - Modelling of how to swap negative thinking to positive thinking. - Interactive activities around training our brains how to think and respond in the ways we would like. - Resources for a craft activity (for up to 25 children) that encourages further development of the topics covered.

Music as Therapy Part 2: A Workshop in Telling Our Stories
3 year old kinder - Grade 1

Catering for children in 3-year-old kinder - Grade 1, child friendly workshop builds on the “How I feel…Through Music!” workshop. Children learn how music and sound can add meaning to stories, how some of their favourite TV shows and movies use music and sound to express emotion and deeper meaning and how they can tell their own personal stories with sound and music. This empowers children to be proud of their own identity and story, leading to increased self-esteem and wellbeing. The content is based on evidence-based counselling theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, adapted to be fun and approachable to children. Modelling to educators helps to continue child development of the skills they learn following the session. Lots of instruments are used in the session, including trumpet, piano, guitar, recorder and DIY instruments, where the children are encouraged to be able to make their own sound. This session is best as a follow up to the "How I Feel...Through Music!" workshop. It includes: - Recap of what instruments and sounds can help express emotions. - Demonstrations of how different movie characters, TV characters and pop stars use music to tell a story. - Modelling of adding sounds and music to a story to enhance meaning. - Scaffolding for children telling their own story and adding sound and music to help them express this. - Resources for a craft activity (for up to 25 children) that encourages further development of the topics covered.
